Follow Me — How to Follow Jesus in Everyday Life

Jesus did not call us merely to attend church, admire Him from a distance, or consume Christian teaching.

He said:

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:19

Following Jesus is more than believing the right things. It means learning to walk with Him, listen to Him, obey Him, be changed by Him, and eventually help others follow Him too.

This series will take that journey one step at a time.

Follow Jesus → Be changed by Jesus → Help others follow Jesus.

We are following a simple principle: Just in Time and Just Enough. We will learn the next step when we are ready to practise it.

Sometimes following Jesus also means responding to something that cannot simply be left until later. For that reason, an important message about protecting children and other vulnerable people has been included early in this series.

These are the drafts and may not have been delivered exactly.  Also many pptx PowerPoint files have hidden Easter Eggs (Hidden Slides) for further reading.

Follow Me Messages and Workshops
1. Follow Me — No Spectators

Jesus calls followers, not fans.

The first question is simple:

What is Jesus asking me to do next?

2. Follow Me — Love Protects the Vulnerable

Jesus places the small, the dependent and the vulnerable at the centre of our attention.

Following Jesus means that responsibility and authority are used to protect people, never to harm them. It also means responding properly when concerns arise: protecting the vulnerable, respecting confidentiality, reporting concerns through the right process, and refusing gossip or amateur investigation.

The principle is simple:

Love protects the vulnerable — and uses the right process.

3. Follow Me — Hear and Obey: Build on the Rock

Jesus did not finish the Sermon on the Mount by asking whether people enjoyed it, agreed with it, or remembered it.

He finished with a picture of two builders.

Both heard His words. Both eventually faced the storm.

The difference was what they did with what they had heard.

Jesus said:

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24

Luke makes the challenge even more direct:

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”
Luke 6:46

Following Jesus means more than hearing His teaching.

Come to Jesus → Hear Jesus → Do what Jesus says.

The principle is simple:

When Jesus is clear, disciples move.

4. Follow Me — Count the Cost: Take Up Your Cross

Jesus never hid the cost of following Him.

He told His disciples:

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
Luke 9:23

Counting the cost does not mean earning salvation. Grace comes first. But following Jesus means recognising that He is not merely an addition to our lives — He is Lord of them.

The question is not:

“How much can Jesus take from me?”

The real question is:

“Who gets the final say?”

The principle is simple:

Following Jesus means surrender, not convenience.

About the Follow Me Series

The previous teaching series concentrated on what disciples of Jesus should look like in the way we love and treat one another.

Now we take the next step.

We will explore what it actually looks like to follow Jesus in everyday life: not simply hearing His teaching, but obeying Him and allowing Him to change the way we live.

That includes learning to recognise the responsibilities Jesus gives us toward other people, especially children and those who are vulnerable or dependent upon others for their safety and care.

It also means learning that Jesus' teaching is not merely information to collect. His words are intended to become the foundation on which we actually build our lives.

Following Jesus also means learning to surrender the parts of life we would rather keep under our own control. Jesus does not call us to convenient discipleship. He calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow Him.

As the journey continues, new messages will be added here when they are needed.

One step. One act of obedience. One person at a time.
